Hello everyone!

How are you? Are you doing well? I sure hope that you are! :) Well it's been quite a long time since I posted a painting on this site, so I'm happy to present this piece, which I will admit took me a while to complete! :phew:

Though it may be self explanatory, I have here my rendition of the fabled mermaid, which I designed myself, when vieweing a few images of the lovely Betta Fighting Fish. This fish in particular comes in a number of colors and I chose one with similar hues to depict the image above.

Truth be told, this piece was drawn as a line art piece quite a few years ago, (as I put it aside to work on other things) but it was only recently finished as a colored piece, when I was given the opportunity to submit it in a local art contest. For the sake of the contest, I also came up for with the title "Up From the Sea;" perhaps to give it a little more mystique and intrique. ^^;

I suppose there wasn't too much more to say, though I also used quite a bit of references of various landscapes in order to create the background. I wanted the piece to be vibrant and colorful, while hopefully have a unique design to it, despite using this specific fish as a basis.

I may decide to rescan it when the work is finally returned to me, as I did work on it a LITTLE bit more more than this, but sadly, I was unable to scan it again, due to the deadline I was given. I'll most likely add a note when that does occur, should you choose to see the more polished version. :)

This is gorgeous Kathie. Her colors are striking, and her face looks so peaceful. I also give props to the background as well. Color reflections in from the rock and the sea foam caps on the waves are perfect. ^_^

I really need to get back on the ball with drawing and painting more original works and I'm hoping that this new year will mark the beginning of a new chapter with my art as a whole! This is a really beautiful piece!

You can really see the betta fish influence in the design and it looks stunning. I hope that you have the best of luck in the contest. :)

It's a little different than what I normally do, but it was a nice change! I hope to be able to do some more in the future so be on the look out!
